A new theater company in Cleveland, Tenn., will raise the curtain on its first show Friday, Feb. 7. "Sirens," a contemporary love story from playwright Deborah Zoe Laufer, will be presented over the next two weekends by the Ocoee Theatre Guild at The Venue Creekside.
"Sirens" offers a twist on the traditional romantic comedy. Instead of two young lovers destined to meet, the story focuses on a 25-year-married couple, Sam and Rose Abrams. The spark is gone from their relationship, as well as from Sam's creative muse as a songwriter. When his wife discovers that Sam is using Facebook to connect with other women, their marriage hits the rocks. Sam chases his siren, the one that will bring him the next great song. Rose chases hers, the man she could have married all those years ago. Ultimately, Sam's siren turns out to be an actual siren, the kind that sings men to their doom.
The cast features four Cleveland actors: James Williams as Sam, Carole Hicks as Rose, Alainy Kendall as the Siren and Jacob Shrimplin as Rose's old flame, Richard.
