Your shake could be worth $10,000

Original recipes for milkshakes could be worth $10,000 in Mayfield's Below Zero Hero contest.

Monday is the last day to submit original recipes to BelowZeroHero.com, and each one submitted increases your chances of winning.

Judges will narrow the list to the Top 10 recipes. Between Aug. 25 and Sept. 1, participants can recruit friends and family to vote. The recipe with the most votes wins.

Also awarded will be $3,000 for second place and $1,000 for third place. Additionally, for every vote cast, the voter's name is entered into a drawing for $1,000.

BelowZeroHero.com has highlighted several shakes to inspire new blenders. Here's a sampling.

  • Tiger Tail Milkshake: In blender, combine one cup of milk, a 16-ounce can of orange-juice concentrate and 8 scoops of vanilla ice cream; blend on high until smooth. Drizzle sundae syrup inside chilled glasses to make tiger-stripe design. Pour shake into glasses. Add a wafer stick or pretzel rod for the tiger's tail.
  • Peaches and Dream Milkshake: Combine in a blender 3/4 cup of milk, 1/4 cup amaretto syrup, 1 cup sliced peaches and 8 scoops of vanilla ice cream; blend on high until smooth. Pour into chilled glasses. Garnish with whipped cream, additional peach slices and toasted almonds.
  • Wonderful Truffle Milkshake: In a blender, combine 3/4 cup of milk, 1/4 cup of chocolate hazelnut spread and 8 scoops of chocolate ice cream; blend on high until smooth. Pour into chilled glasses. Garnish with whipped cream, chocolate curls and toasted hazelnuts.
