Creative Discovery Museum cooks up some rooftop fun

A new program at Creative Discovery Museum is helping steer children toward healthier food choices.

"Cooking on the Rooftop: Summer Food Series," sponsored in part by 212 Market Restaurant, promotes healthy food choices by using fresh, local ingredients and showing how simple healthy menus can be.

IF YOU GO* What: Cooking on the Rooftop.* When: Noon Saturday.* Where: Creative Discovery Museum, 321 Chestnut St.* Admission: Free with museum entry ($10.95).* Phone: 756-2738. * Website: www.cdmfun.org.

Chef Nick Goeller will demonstrate how different meals are prepared by incorporating produce and herbs straight from the museum's Rooftop Garden into his culinary creations. Guests will be able to sample the food, which will include grilled pizzas, salads and fruit-based desserts.

"Cooking on the Rooftop is a great way to show how simple preparing local, seasonal ingredients can be when designing healthy menus," said Liza Blair, the museum's arts manager. "Best of all, children and adults will be able to taste all the wonderful meals while learning how to prepare the same dish at home."

Cooking on the Rooftop will be featured at noon Saturday as well as Aug. 13. The museum is open 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. daily during the summer. The program is free with paid museum admission.
