Abuelo's still sells dinner, movie deal

Abuelo's Mexican Food Embassy serves fresh recipes with a Mexican and coastal flair that can satisfy any appetite or budget.

"I want this to be the place for people to go to when they want to have a great dinner," says general manager Ramesh Jolam. "Abuelo's is very festive and elegant, but at the same time affordable. We are a family restaurant and our price point reflects that. We have a great lunch menu with most things under $10, and even our dinner menu has 13 entrées for $10 or less. People have been really eating up the dinner and a movie special, because the price is just unbeatable."

The dinner and a movie package includes dinner for two and two movie tickets for use at nearby Rave Motion Pictures in East Ridge for $39.99. The meal includes Abuelo's fajita for two, served on a large sizzling platter with the guests' choice of up to four different meats. Couples can order traditional favorites like a steak fajita or they can be adventurous with bacon-wrapped shrimp, tilapia or pork tenderloin.

The movie tickets work for 3-D, Imax and traditional films at the Rave, located just off of Interstate 24. Couples don't need to make reservations for the dinner and a movie package, nor do they have to finish diner and go straight to the theater. They can see the movie of their choice at a later date.

Whether guests are getting the fajita for two or partaking in one of the restaurant's tapas-style entrées from the happy hour menu, the entrées are made from scratch using fresh ingredients. Jolam says in the near future even the restaurant's tortillas will be made fresh in-house on its new tortilla machine.

The delicious entrées also translate well for large gatherings and events. Abuelo's hosts many catered events for offices and private functions both in-house and on-site.

Jolam assures customers that their special event doesn't have to be all about taco bars and enchiladas; the kitchen can make everything from the restaurant's stuffed chicken breast medallions to items that aren't on the menu at all. The quality of the food is guaranteed, and at each event specially trained staff members ensure everything remains fresh and delicious from beginning to end.

We can cater to anything they want, not just primarily Mexican food," Jolam says. "That is a misconception that most people have. They think Abuelo's is straight-up Mexican, but we are a restaurant that serves great food with a coastal flair, including seafood and steaks and things like that."

For in-house events, guests can use the banquet room, or for larger parties they can fill the indoor courtyard at the center of the restaurant. Jolam says the great thing about Abuelo's courtyard, with its blue sky painted on the ceiling, is that even on 107-degree days outdoors the weather is always nice inside. There is enough room for up to 100 guests to enjoy themselves.

"We have a great location by the mall and it's easy and accessible to everybody," Jolam says. "It's definitely growing and we can cater to Chattanooga's needs with vegetarian and gluten-free menus."
