An Evening With Chris Proctor, scheduled Saturday at Barking Legs Theater, will mark a return visit for the acclaimed fingerstyle guitarist.

"We haven't had so much of the great finger pickers over the past few years, but many folks fondly recall performances by [Proctor], Preston Reed, Adrian Legg, Robin Bullock, et al, and it should be a blast getting a virtuoso in this style back into the Legs," said promoter George Parker in a news release. Fans can expect "beautiful, breathtaking playing from a champion picker."

Proctor is known nationwide as one of the modern masters of fingerstyle guitar and is at the forefront of contemporary steel-string guitar. Since winning the National Fingerstyle Guitar competition more than 20 years ago, he has toured constantly, releasing a steady stream of recordings of his own compositions and arrangements.

His music is rooted in classic Americana, spiced with folk, Celtic, jazz, pop and classical flavors, all of which are in evidence in the 12 finely crafted original pieces that comprise his latest release, "Ladybug Stomp."

Two other recent releases, "The Chris Proctor Collection," which reprises his first 25 years of writing, and "Under the Influence," a stunning set of arrangements of the music that shaped his artistic development, are best-sellers among acoustic guitar enthusiasts.

Proctor has appeared on two Windham Hill Guitar Samplers and has been a clinician for Taylor Guitars since 1984. Taylor recently manufactured 100 Chris Proctor Signature Model guitars to his design specifications.
