The Shaking Ray Levi Society will present two "veteran improvisers at the height of their powers" tonight when saxophonist Trevor Watts and pianist Veryan Weston perform at Barking Legs Theater.

The concert is being presented in association with the New Dischord Festival.

British saxophonist Watts has been a pioneering force in improvisation music for almost 50 years. He co-founded the Spontaneous Music Ensemble in the mid-'60s. That group included other notable improv heavyweights such as Derek Bailey and Evan Parker. His work with Amalgamin in the late '60s explored the blending of jazz, improv, rock and traditional music. In the '80s, he established the Moiré Musicensemble, which merged jazz and African music.

Weston also has blazed his own trail as a world-class improvising pianist and composer.

Together, Watts and Weston present "Dialogues," an exploration of "the conversational nature of spontaneous music creation."
