Drawing on influences such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and U2, Third Day has charted a path in contemporary Christian music that has earned the band 27 No. 1 hits, four Grammy Awards and 24 Dove Awards.

They will return to Memorial Auditorium on Thursday.

Featuring bassist Tai Anderson, drummer David Carr, guitarist Mark Lee and vocalist Mac Powell, the group debuted in 1996.

Among their hit songs are "Cry Out to Jesus," "Call My Name," "Come Together" and "My Hope Is You." They were inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2009.

Their latest CD, "Move," was recorded in Atlanta at a studio built by the band. Powell said hope is a recurring theme in the band's music, and it is there again on "Move."

"The main theme overall of Third Day has been this message of living an abundant life that God offers us," Powell said in the band's online bio, "but I think even more than that is hope. There are so many songs about hope, about hanging in there and not giving up and knowing that there's a God in heaven that loves you and wants to hold you."
