Fall Musical Showcase at Bryan College

Vocal spectaculars, a mandolin concerto and Franz Liszt's blockbuster Piano Concerto No. 1 will highlight the Bryan Music Department's Fall Musical Showcase tonight.

The free concert will be presented in Rudd Auditorium on the Dayton, Tenn., campus beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Adjunct professor Jason Duroy will perform the Liszt concerto as the music department continues its celebration of the Liszt bicentennial, according to Dr. Mel Wilhoit, music department chairman.

The orchestra, made up of professional musicians and Bryan music students, will open the concert with Rossini's overture to "The Barber of Seville," under Wilhoit's direction, then will accompany the soloists and chorale.

The Chorale, under direction of Dr. David Luther, will sing the finale from Mendelssohn's oratorio "Elijah," John Rutter's "Magnificat" and selections from Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana."

Seniors Kelly Miller and Matt Albin will sing a selection of well-known opera arias, and freshman David Benedict will play the Vivaldi mandolin concerto, plus offer some bluegrass favorites.

"Our annual Fall Musical Showcase has become just that -- an amazing concert which showcases the breadth and depth of our student and faculty talent, from individual solos to large ensembles," Wilhoit said. "This year will be no exception."
