Trion, Ga.-based singer/songwriter Martha Ann Brooks is coordinating tonight's tribute show to John Prine. She will be performing "Other Side of Town."Sixteen area performers will offer a Prine Time Tribute tonight to John Prine, considered one of the most influential songwriters of his generation.
The legendary artist began performing in the early 1970s and became a central figure in the Chicago folk revival. His work has been included on countless "best," and "essentials" lists. His "Fair & Square" won the Grammy for the Best Contemporary Folk Album in 2006.
Seventeen songs will be featured in tonight's show, at Chrales & myrtle's Coffeehouse, concluding with a group finale of Prine's anthem "Paradise."
"All performers are donating their time, so all the pass-the-basket proceeds ($10 per person suggested) go to C&M's to help fund future shows," said Jerre Haskew, who will be performing "Spanish Pipedream (Blow Up Your TV)" and "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness."
The venue seats about 80 people, so early arrival is suggested. Free homemade cookies, coffee and water will be available.
