Covenant College's 2011-12 Covenant Arts concert series continues tonight with a performance by pianist Edward Eikner, whose appearances as a recitalist, soloist with symphony orchestras and chamber musician have taken him to five continents.

"We've invited Eikner back not just for his artistic performances but also his superb teaching," said Dr. Jeanell Brown, associate professor of music. "Eikner was my undergraduate piano professor and has assisted me throughout my master's and doctoral degrees, so I know firsthand of his artistry and pedagogy."

Based in Georgia, Eikner is the Comer Professor of Fine Arts at Wesleyan College in Macon. As part of his Covenant visit, he was scheduled to work with three students in a master class Thursday while other music majors and minors observed, Brown said.

According to his bio, Eikner enjoys exploring lesser-known music (Brazilian, Spanish, Greek and Chinese) as well as the mainstream repertoire. His first three CDs have been best sellers.

He attended Baylor University on a Van Cliburn Scholarship and did his graduate work at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. He studied in Europe on a Fulbright grant.
