Fans of Soul Mechanic can add to the sound of the progressive funk band's first full-length release, a live album to be recorded Sunday night at Rhythm & Brews.
Known for an innovative, bass-heavy sound, the Chattanooga-based band will offer its repertoire of funk mixed with fresh tracks and a dance-friendly ambiance.
"This live recording is a great way to get our fans involved in the production of our first full-length album," said bass guitarist/lead vocalist Tyler Reddick in a news release. "Chattanooga has a lot of great local bands starting to push the envelope, and we're pumped about being able to be a part of that momentum."
Local sound engineer Brett Nolan, who recorded Soul Mechanic's debut EP, will be on-site to create a high-quality recording of the full set. Videographer Charles Coleman will film the show.
Reddick and lead guitarist Clark Jackson formed Soul Mechanic in the summer of 2011. Reddick studied music at Chattanooga State Community College and has performed with other acts such as Dos Mojo. Jackson studied guitar with Jimmy Herring at the Atlanta Institute of Music.
A touring and session musician since 2005, percussionist Tyler Wright has worked with acts such as Earth, Wind and Fire and James Taylor. Saxophonist Jon Elliott studied music at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and is the band director at South Pittsburg (Tenn.) High School. Elliott is also a member of the local band The Velvet Hand.
Opening act is The Juice, an experimental band from Auburn, Ala., that performs electronica, jazz, dub and world music.
