New Dischord Festival

The New Dischord Festival, a grassroots celebration of experimental music and unusual collaborations performed in nontraditional spaces, opens Thursday.

The four-day festival is produced by Tim Hinck, the New Dischord Ensemble and the Shaking Ray Levi Society. Highlights, according to the organizers, include:

• Music by experimental double bassist Evan Lipson.

• A sonic walk-through performance written by Hinck and featuring boy soprano Ethan Dickenson and a brass quartet.

• A collaboration between six vocalists and conceptual artist Ashley Hamilton.

All performances are free, though donations are welcome, and two shows at the Hunter Museum of American Art require regular paid admission into the museum ($9.95 adults).

Donations may be made at the events, through PayPal at www.timhinck.com or through the Kickstarter campaign at www.kickstarter.com (type New Dischord in the search bar).
