The 130 members of the MidSouth Concert Band and Scenic City Chorale will present a free Christmas concert in the Tivoli Theatre tonight, Dec. 19, at 7:30.

The program will include sacred and secular music presented by the groups individually and together for a medley of music from the movie "White Christmas."

MidSouth Concert Band will play "Toboggan Ride"; "Blue Christmas"; "Holiday Celebration," which is a medley featuring a nostalgic rendition of "Over the River and Through the Woods"; and a jazz arrangement of "Good King Wenceslas."

The Chorale will sing "Fanfare for Christmas Day"; "Christmas Glory," a medley of glorias by Handel, Vivaldi and Mozart; "Twelve Days of Christmas"; as well as familiar sacred and secular carols.

Band director Jim Souders says the concert will be highlighted by a telling of the true story of the Candy Bomber during the 1948 Berlin Airlift.

"Our goal is to present a varied program that everyone can sing along with, tap their feet to and be wrapped in the warmth of the season. This concert is always a special one for us, and we look forward to making it a special time for our audience," says Souders.

The MidSouth Band and the Scenic City Chorale have each been performing for more than 20 years. Ron Starnes conducts the Scenic City Chorale and is the band's associate director.
