New Chattanooga band Eight Knives will perform Tuesday, July 30, following a screening of "A Band Called Death" by the Mise En Scenesters film club.

The rock documentary explores the story of three teenage brothers who formed a punk band in their spare bedroom in the early 1970s, preceding Bad Brains, Sex Pistols and even the Ramones.

The brothers played a few gigs and pressed a single in the hopes of getting signed, but Death's music was ahead of its time in an era of Motown and emerging disco.

The brothers disbanded before completing an album. "A Band Called Death" chronicles what happened almost three decades later when a dusty 1974 demo tape made its way out of the attic and found an audience several generations younger.

The screening will start at 8:30 p.m. at Barking Legs Theater, 1307 Dodds Ave. Tickets are $7.
