The Greater Cleveland Community Band will bring the songs of the Great White Way to Cleveland, Tenn., on Friday, May 24. "Broadway Off Broad Street" is the ensemble's contribution to the monthlong Evening Shade series of concerts in Johnston Park. Music starts at 6:30 p.m.

Selections will include songs from some of Broadway's best-known shows and composers. Among them: highlights from "Gypsy" by Jule Styne; "Guys and Dolls Overture" by Frank Loesser; highlights from "The Music Man" by Meredith Willson; "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," arranged by Michael Sweeney; highlights from "South Pacific" by Richard Rodgers; "Give My Regards to Broadway" by George M. Cohan; and highlights from "Fiddler on the Roof" by Jerry Bock.

"Selections from Broadway musicals are always a crowd favorite," says Kyle Elrod, talent organizer for Evening Shade. "This will be a great evening to kick back, relax and begin the holiday weekend."

The GCCB is a group of adult musicians who have dusted off their high school and college instruments and reached out to students enrolled in area schools to be a part of a community band.

"Their repertoire appeals to a broad audience," Elrod says, "and this is their third Evening Shade appearance."

Admission to the concert is free. Picnics are welcome.

To reach Johnston Park from I-75, take Cleveland Exit 25 and travel east on Highway 60 (25th Street). In about a mile, turn right on Ocoee Street, which goes into downtown Cleveland. Johnston Park is two blocks south of the Bradley County Courthouse.

The series is made possible by the Allied Arts Council of the Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce.
