The Chattanooga Boys Choir will host its popular Community Hymn Festival on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 13, at First Baptist Church in the Golden Gateway. The biennial event always draws a full house as concertgoers of all denominations join the festival choir, instrumentalists and special guests in singing a variety of songs of faith.
"It is quite gratifying to see people from various traditions, ages and experiences come together instantly through their love of song," says Vincent Oakes, Boys Choir artistic director.
A new addition to this hymn festival will be an inspirational message from composer Daniel Gawthrop, one of America's most noted and oft-performed composers of sacred music, Oakes says.
According to Oakes, the festival choir will perform arrangements of "Climb to the Top of the Highest Mountain," by Carolyn Jennings, and an arrangement of "How Can I Keep From Singing?" by Chattanooga musician and composer Penny Tullock. The Boys Choir will perform such works as "Let Me Fly," by Rollo Dilworth; "My Lord What a Morning," by Sue Ellen Page; and "The Lord Is My Shepherd," by Allen Pote.
The hymn fest is free, but a goodwill offering will be collected to benefit the Newton Child Development Center.
