The second of two lectures on forensic anthropology will be held Wednesday at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.
Dr. Dudley Gardner of Western Wyoming College will speak on "The Formative Period: Archaeological Work on the Wooten Ranch and Rock Shelter in Southeast Colorado."
Excavation of the shelter is a long-term project directed by Gardner, a Lee alumnus who was named by USA Today as one of five top Western historical archaeologists several years ago. According to university archives, the Colorado dig has unearthed prehistoric artifacts of the Apishapa Indians. Carbon dating estimates the site has been occupied since about 5,000 B.C.
Gardner's presentation will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Johnson Lecture Hall in the Humanities Center on Parker Street. Admission is free. Anyone with an interest in forensics or anthropology is welcome to attend.
