Dogs sink teeth into flyball competition

Chattanooga Chomp Flyball Club will be hosting a flyball tournament Saturday and Sunday at Play Dog Excellent, 4113 Dayton Blvd. Hours are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. both days.

Flyball is a relay race in which four dogs travel down a 51-foot racing lane over four jumps, turning on a spring-loaded box at the end. Each dog ejects a ball from the box that it must catch and bring back over the four jumps.

The event is sanctioned by the North American Flyball Association.

"We will be hosting more than 25 flyball teams from the Southeast as well as other regions of some of the area's most intense and fastest dogs showing their skills and playing their favorite game this weekend," said Beverly Grove, the Chattanooga team manager.

Admission is free. Only dogs in the competition will be admitted to the venue. For more information, call 870-7740.
