County fairs offer cornucopia of activites this weekend

There's a better than fair chance that you can find a county fair somewhere close by this weekend. Everything from livestock shows to Pretty Baby contests are on tap.

PIKEVILLE, TENN.

Meigs County Fair, fairgrounds on Main Street; gates open 5 p.m. daily, except for 4 p.m. Saturday; free.

Today, the fair will feature a gospel singing, and the fair closes out Saturday with a classic car show and the junior beef show.

BENTON, TENN.

Polk County Fair, showbarn, Highway 411; Monday-Sept. 17; 6-10 p.m. daily; music 8-10 p.m.; Pretty Baby Contest daily (ages 1-3) 6 p.m.; free.

Tuesday is Senior Citizens Night with gospel music at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday is Sheep Show, Beef Show and Karaoke night.

Thursday's featured event is bluegrass music from 7 to 10 p.m.

Jackson County Fair, Veterans Park Fairgrounds, 220 Cecil St.; gates open at 5:30 CDT, midway opens at 6 p.m. today, 5 p.m. Saturday; $4 ages 12 and older, $3 ages 4-11.

Kissel Entertainment is providing the midway, with armbands for unlimited rides priced at $20.
