Celebration of locally written books is Tuesday

Authors from throughout the Chattanooga area will gather to introduce themselves and their work at "A Celebration of Books," scheduled 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Chattanooga Public Library, 1001 Broad St.

This chance for writers and readers to share their passion for the written word is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the Chattanooga Writers Guild.

Guild president Lantz Powell said he hopes to change the public's perspective on libraries.

"The library is a local treasure that should be respected by the community at large," he said. "While many think of a library as a 'bank for books,' it is actually more serious than that."

The Chattanooga Writers Guild welcomes new and experienced writers in all genres. Regular meetings are held at the downtown library, but the members also form smaller critique groups that meet throughout the city.

Regional authors who would like to add their name to the guild's master list should email chatta noogawritersguild@gmail.com.

"A Celebration of Books" is a preliminary event to the 10-day HATCH (History, Art, Technology, Culture, Happenings) Festival.
