Chocolate/muscadine blend featured Saturdays at Georgia Winery

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, Georgia Winery is expecting a crowd for another batch of its chocolate wine, Love Potion.

The re-release has been anticipated since the seasonal wine sold out in just a month a year ago. Love Potion is a unique blend of red muscadine with dark chocolate.

"So much of the wine industry is operated by rules -- how, why, when and where to drink wine. We just try to put some fun into our wines. The chocolate wine represents just that, and people love it," said a news release from Jesse and Tara Taymore, the third-generation operators of the winery.

The idea came about two years ago when the popularity of other chocolate wines was growing. Having tasted these other chocolate wines, the general managers said the were not impressed and thought that the winery's special freeze-fermentation technique, along with using a sweeter grape (compared to other chocolate wines that use a vinifera grape), would make a premium chocolate wine.

"This wine is far different from other wines," said Tara Taymore. "In almost all chocolate wines, you will get chocolate flavor added to a finished product. Love Potion contains real chocolate blended into the finished wine by hand. The taste is incredibly different."

Love Potion is a limited wine made in a small batch only once a year. The winery will feature the wine at a Wine & Chocolate open house every Saturday in February from noon to 4 p.m.

Dove Chocolate will be on scene with a supply of chocolate fondue and an assortment of dipping items for all guests. Dove also will provide the chocolate for the Wine & Chocolate Pairing class every Saturday in February at 3 p.m. To reserve a seat for the class, call 706-937-WINE or email ashley@georgiawines.com.

Georgia Winery is at 6469 Battlefield Parkway in Ringgold, Ga., just off I-75 at Exit 350.
