Smiley, Curry visit

With characters like Lil' Daryl, Rusty Dale, Bernice Jenkins (aka Granny Swims) and Ms. Johnson, Rickey Smiley can entertain audiences with a routine full of clean, hilarious material.

He will headline a show Saturday at 8 p.m. with special guest Mark Curry at Memorial Auditorium.

Smiley has done stand-up, recorded several CDs, appeared in films and television specials and hosted BET's "Comic View" as well as his own nationally syndicated radio show.

He's also known for his prank phone calls, including one in which he claims to be a narcoleptic funeral home worker who has been buried alive after falling asleep in a casket.

He is in production in Atlanta filming "The Rickey Smiley Show," a sitcom based on his own experiences raising children as a single father, according to his website.

Curry may be best known as the star of the ABC sitcom "Hanging' With Mr. Cooper" and as one of the various hosts of the syndicated series "It's Showtime at the Apollo." Most recently, he has appeared on "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" on ABC Family.
