Things continue to line up for Dunlap, Tenn., resident Cody McCarver.
In addition to his gig tonight on the Bud Light Stage at Riverbend and another show June 30 at LibertyFest in East Ridge, McCarver has three movie projects in various stages of completion and a CD set for release in late July. The title track, "I Just Might Live Forever," will be used in a movie tentatively called "Billy the Kid: I Just Might Live Forever."
McCarver will play a bounty hunter in that film.
He plays the lead in "Cole Younger and the Black Train." He wrote "Outlaws & Trains," which will be on that soundtrack as well. That movie is set for release July 31 on DVD, and "Outlaws & Trains" will be included as a free download and the video for it will be included as an extra, McCarver said.
McCarver sponsors a dirt-track car and was inspired to write a song called "Let's Get Dirty." After getting positive response from fans, drivers and track owners, he set about looking to get it made into a movie and stumbled across producer Tom Stout, who is making his own film about dirt-track racing called "LA Dirt."
Travis Tritt has signed on to star in it.
"Tom liked the song and wants it in his, and he wants me to write a second song and be in the movie," McCarver said.
He said he will film his part in Mobile, Ala., June 25. He will play country music singer Cody McCarver.
"That's pretty cool, I guess," he said.
All of the above songs will be on "I Just Might Live Forever," as will a new version of "White Trash With Money" that he re-recorded with Colt Ford.
Hip-hop performer Big Sho also makes a guest appearance, as does Richard Sterban from the Oak Ridge Boys.
"I wrote a song called 'Bow Chicka Wow Wow' that has a line from 'Elvira.' It's the only line that works. My manager said I couldn't use it, but I said we could if Richard sings it. He did, and I paid him 200 bucks. He didn't want to take anything. That was cool."
He also does a slower version of Mark Gray's "Left Side of the Bed" that earned high marks from its writer, Sonny Lemaire.
"I've always thought that was one of the best songs ever," McCarver said.
The children's oncology department at Erlanger Children's Hospital has an extra $10,636 thanks to an event planned by three Signal Mountain High School students.
Mitchell Hall, Alle Hunter and Brock Pressley helped book, promote and present country singer Craig Morgan at Rhythm & Brews last month as a way to raise money in honor of former schoolmate Katelyn Youngblood, who is battling cancer.
"The event went great," Hall said. "We had a line 50 yards long of people waiting to get in."
