C.S. Lewis Lecture features Ralph Wood

Dr. Ralph Wood will present the 30th annual C.S. Lewis Lecture on Thursday at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. His topic: "Rum, Romanism and the Sacramental Imagination: G.K. Chesterton as Defender of the Faith."

The program will start at 7:30 p.m. in the Benwood Auditorium of the UTC Engineering, Math and Computer Science Building, corner of Vine and Palmetto streets. Admission is free.

Wood, professor of theology and literature at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, serves as an editor-at-large for the Christian Century and is a member of the editorial board of the Flannery O'Connor Review.

His publications include "Chesterton: The Nightmare Goodness of God," "The Comedy of Redemption: Christian Faith and Comic Vision in Four American Novelists," "Contending for the Faith: The Church's Engagement with Culture," "The Gospel According to Tolkien: Visions of the Kingdom in Middle-earth" and "Flannery O'Connor and the Christ-Haunted South."

Before the lecture, UTC's University Honors students will host an informal seminar led by Wood on Flannery O'Connor's short story "The River." This informal seminar, also free, will be held at 4 p.m. in the Flag Room of the Guerry Center.
