Chattanooga Market will celebrate its annual Strawberry Festival on Sunday with fresh strawberries from five area farms, said market spokeswoman Melissa Siragusa.

Marketgoers typically get their first taste of local strawberries a few weeks after the market opens for the season.

"This year, though, we've had strawberries since our opening day because of the good weather we've been having," Siragusa said. "The only problem is that we've been selling out early. On Sunday, with five farms selling strawberries, we hope everyone gets to go home with fresh strawberries."

There won't be a shortage, though, of strawberry-related items.

"Vendors will be selling everything from strawberry cake to strawberry salsa, chocolate-dipped strawberries and more," she said.

Siragusa expects a big crowd on Sunday.

"The pavilion is covered and provides a great place to go on a rainy day," Siragusa said. "The pavilion was packed last Sunday (on Mother's Day) despite the rain."
