Zoo, CDM honor heroes on Patriot Day

Tuesday marks the 11th anniversary of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. Two area attractions have announced plans to honor local heroes during the week.

Chattanooga Zoo, 301 N. Holtzclaw Ave., will observe Patriot Day all day Tuesday with free admission to those who have served plus three additional family members. Local firefighters, police officers, emergency responders and military personnel with proof of ID or veterans with proof of status are eligible.

The zoo is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. Regular admission is $8.95 adults, $6.95 seniors 65-74 and $5.95 children 3-12. Admission is free for younger children and, this year, to seniors 75 and older, in honor of the zoo's 75th anniversary year.

Creative Discovery Museum, 321 Chestnut St., will hold its tribute the entire week, granting free admission to police officers, firefighters, military personnel and their families Monday through Sept. 16. The offer is good for up to two adults and two children with presentation of an appropriate ID.

The museum offers a similar discount of $3 year-round.

Regular admission is $11.95. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, noon-5 p.m. Sundays (closed most Wednesdays from September through February).
