Sixth Street, Brainerd Road set for festivals

Two neighborhood block parties are scheduled Saturday, April 13 -- one in downtown Chattanooga, the other in Brainerd.

• Chattanooga: The inaugural Sixth Street Block Party is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the 300 block of Sixth Street near the Downtown YMCA and Chattanooga WorkSpace.

Among the activities are live music, live mural paintings by resident artists of the Chattanooga WorkSpace, hands-on art with local artists, yarn bombing installation, food trucks, cooking demonstrations by Dish T'Pass Catering and scenes from "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" by the Signal Mountain High School Theatre Department.

• Brainerd: The Tunnel Arts Festival will showcase, food, fashion and art from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Brainerd Area Arts District on Brainerd Road near the Missionary Ridge Tunnel.

Visitors will enjoy family events, a kids area and musical entertainment. Merchants in the district will host activities. This is the first year for the free festival, which is organized by the BRAD and The Block Art Collective.
