Just in time for back-to-school shopping, three-day sales tax holidays have been granted by lawmakers in Tennessee and Alabama this weekend, Aug. 2-4. Georgia shoppers can follow suit over two days next weekend, Aug. 9-10.

TENNESSEE

In Tennessee, the state will provide exemptions from sales and use taxes on most clothing, footwear and school supplies priced under $100. Computers priced at $1,500 or less are also tax-free.

Hamilton Place mall stores will extend hours during the promotion: 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday.

Northgate Mall in Hixson will be open regular hours.

Bradley Square in Cleveland is running a back-to-school promotion that coincides with tax-free weekend. Shoppers may register through Sunday, Aug. 4. Prizes, including an Apple iPad, will be given away Aug. 5-9.

ALABAMA

In Alabama, similar exemptions apply on clothing, but school supplies must be priced at $50 or less and computers must have a single-purchase sales price of $750 or less. Alabama also adds an exemption for books priced at $30 or less.

Some communities, including Mentone, will not be participating in the holiday.
