The Bessie Smith Cultural Center, 200 E. M.L. King Blvd., will host the sixth annual Bessie Smith Heritage Festival this weekend.

The festival is divided into two themes, with the first night featuring neo-soul and the second night focusing on jazz.

Set to perform Saturday, Aug. 10, are Kindred the Family Soul, Stokley Williams (of Mint Condition), Olamide Faison, Tawanna Shaunte and Ogya. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Performing on Sunday, Aug. 11, will be Joe Johnson, Eric Essix, Joey Sommerville, Michael Ward and Faison in a second set. Doors open at 5 p.m.

As an added feature, Faison and his band members will give a free artist talk at 2 p.m. Sunday in the nearby Lindsay Street Hall, 901 E. Lindsay St.

The weekend festival will include food, adult beverages at a cash bar and merchandise vendors.

Admission is $35 in advance and $40 at the door each day.
