First Church of the Nazarene, 5326 Lynnland Terrace, will host a barbecue cook-off from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, to raise funds for leukemia patient Jody Smith.
According to event organizers, Smith, who has no health insurance, needs an operation for an infection that has entered her bloodstream.
Cooks may enter the contest for a $75 entry fee.
Door prizes will be awarded during the day, and several gift baskets will be raffled off to help earn additional funds. Other food will be available in addition to barbecue.
Activities for children will include face-painting and inflatables.
