Candlelight tours at Marsh House recall Christmas Eve of 1863 - Dec. 21-22

The final candlelight tours of the season at the Marsh House are this weekend. Using the theme "A Civil War Christmas," reenactors of all ages will present a party arranged by relatives and neighbors of the Marshes in the old house on Christmas Eve 1863 when the house and the city of LaFayette were occupied by Federal troops. Times were hard, the older Marshes were refugees farther south in Georgia, and, at first, it appeared that there would be no Christmas celebrated at the house. However, the Allgood grandchildren from Trion, Ga., had another idea. Come see what happened. Hours are 6-8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 21-22. The house is at 308 N. Main St., in LaFayette, Ga. Admission is $5 for adults, $1 for children. For more information, call 706-638-5187 or visit marshhouse oflafayette.com.
