Visitors to two local attractions can check in with the resident groundhogs on Saturday, Feb. 2, to see whether six more weeks of winter or an early spring is predicted.

According to folklore, if a groundhog sees its shadow on Groundhog Day, it scurries back into the burrow for six more weeks until winter is over. The Chattanooga Arboretum & Nature Center, 400 Garden Road, will be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Its groundhog serves as an animal ambassador and participates in nature education programs.
