Creative Discovery Museum will celebrate America's birthday in style today, July 4. The annual Red, White and Blue Day returns with bubble-wrap fireworks, the reading of the Declaration of Independence by "Uncle Sam," cake, ice cream and a 21-soda geyser salute.
Active military men and women are invited to participate in the geyser salute, an explosive (and impressive) mix of 2-liter Diet Cokes and Mentos mints.
From noon to 4 p.m. guests can create July Fourth-inspired crafts. At 2 p.m., guests will gather with noisemakers to parade around the museum with an actor portraying Uncle Sam. After the reading of the Declaration of Independence by Uncle Sam, guests will gather in front of the museum to honor local service members and watch the geyser salute. The grand finale will be guests gathered on the plaza to sing a "Happy Birthday, America" song, followed by cake and ice cream.
The museum, 321 Chestnut St., is open 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. daily in the summer.
Admission is $11.95. For Red, White and Blue Day, all active military families will receive free admission when ID is presented (limit two adults and two children).
