Spring City tries again to Shake the Lake - July 19

The town of Spring City, Tenn., will present its delayed Fourth of July celebration, Shake the Lake, this weekend.

Events include a block party on Front Street from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 19. Shake the Lake will be a daylong festival on Saturday, July 20, at Veterans Park off New Lake Road.

Saturday's schedule starts off with a pageant at 10 a.m. (registration opens at 9 a.m.). There are 10 categories of competition for newborns to children up to age 8.

Sign-ups for watermelon and pickle-eating contests will be held from noon to 1 p.m. The contests will be held back-to-back, with pickle eaters at 1 p.m. and watermelon eaters at 1:30 p.m.

Karaoke singing is scheduled from 2 to 3 p.m.

From 3 to 3:45 p.m., there will be sign-ups for a Diaper Derby at 4 p.m. and a Teddy Bear Run at 4:15 p.m. A duck race will follow at 5 p.m. Other games and activities will be held throughout the day, with prizes awarded.

Starting at 6 p.m., Corey Rose and Evervigilant will provide entertainment. Fireworks will start at dark.

The celebration was originally scheduled for July 6 but was postponed because of rain.
