Activities including a car wash and music by three bands at Backyard Grille, 4021 Hixson Pike, on Saturday, June 8, will raise funds for a Signal Mountain teenager injured in a car wreck.

According to organizers of the event, Scout Beam was a passenger in a single-vehicle crash that occurred May 5 on Roberts Mill Road in Soddy-Daisy. The driver and a passenger in the front seat were not seriously injured. Scout, who was in the back seat, suffered head trauma. She was hospitalized in intensive care in Chattanooga before being transferred to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta for rehabilitation.

The car wash will start at 4 p.m., with payment by donation.

Bands will play from 8 p.m. until midnight. In order of appearance are Alabama Smith, John Sharpe and Marshall Law. The musicians have agreed to donate all or a portion of their fees to the effort, according to Backyard Grille owner Lisa Easterday.

Easterday says she also will offer food and drink specials. For instance, drinks will be on "happy-hour pricing," and $2 from each hamburger sold will go to Scout's family to help pay her medical bills.

Visitors also have a chance to participate in a 50/50 raffle and buy a rubber remembrance bracelet for $3, says Melissa D. Shaw, a family friend.

"They're sky blue, Scout's favorite color," Shaw says.

The bracelets are stamped: Praying for Scout, Loved Girl.

Scout, 17, is a rising senior at Signal Mountain High School. Her rehabilitation progress can be followed at www.facebook.com/1lovedgirl or www.carepages.com/lovedgirl.
