Food lovers won't want to miss Sundays at the Chattanooga Market in September.

According to marketing director Melissa Siragusa, it's the "big foodie month."

This Sunday, Sept. 15, chefs will compete in the Scenic City Wings contest for best wings. This year's participating restaurants and competitors are Chattanooga Wing Co., The Honest Pint, Blacksmith's Bistro, R&V Wings & Things, Billy Sim of the Elk Club, Keller's, Diamond Billards and T-Bone's Sports Cafe. Next week, foodies can sample varieties of chili at the market's Chili Cook-Off.

Last year's best wings title, voted by marketgoers, went to The Honest Pint, Siragusa says.

For the folks heading to the market for fresh fruits and vegetables, there's an abundance. Among the produce for sale, Siragusa says, are apples, potatoes, a variety of squash, eggplant and corn. There will also be freshly baked breads, as well as concessions from several food trucks.

"We usually have around six to 10 food trucks, but we never know exactly who will show up," she says, explaining that the Muenster Cheese truck is one of the most popular with marketgoers.

Still, it's the wings that will have folks excited this week.

A $10 ticket allows marketgoers to sample wings from each contestant. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Chattanooga Area Food Bank, Siragusa says.
