Fire & Ice festivities in Blue Ridge - Feb. 15

Capping off a week that has seen its fair share of temperature fluctuations, the Blue Ridge (Ga.) Business Association will present its fourth annual Jim Thompson Memorial Fire & Ice Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, Feb. 15.

Events ranging from chili tasting to ice sculptures will take place from noon to 6 p.m. in downtown Blue Ridge.

Admission is free, but a $10 tasting card will buy samples of each competitor's chili for voting on the People's Choice Award. Other food vendors, including beer and wine suppliers, also will be present.

Laura Monk & High Cotton, The Buckner Brothers Band and Neighborhood Watch will entertain. Actors from Blue Ridge Community Theater will offer presidential portrayals to commemorate Presidents Day.

Seventeen businesses, organizations and individuals have signed on to sponsor ice sculptures.

The day includes the crowning of an Ice Queen and Fire Queen at 5 p.m.
