Zoe's Rainbow Dash raises money for children's charities

photo Bar Louie at Hamilton Place has Rainbowtini cocktails on its drink menu through Friday, with $2 from every sale donated to Zoe's Rainbow Dash for Children's Charities.

Zoe's Rainbow Dash, a family-friendly 5K color run, returns for its second year on Friday, July 4, at Hamilton Place, 2100 Hamilton Place Blvd.

The run is named for Zoe Madeline McDonough, who died in a boating accident in 2012 at age 10, along with her grandmother, Sue McDonough.

The race will start at 8 a.m. (unless delayed due to storms) and go around the perimeter of the mall. Rainbow Rangers will throw packets of cornstarch-based powdered color on racers at color stations along the route.

All participants will receive a custom-designed race T-shirt, sunglasses and a personal packet of color to throw at the race finale. Racers are urged to come dressed all in white to show off all the colors they'll be wearing by the end of the race.

Registration for the run is $40 for ages 13 and older, $25 for children ages 5-12 and free for children under 5 years old. Teams of four or more are also welcome. Adult team members receive a $5 registration discount.

At registration, participants can choose to donate their fee to one of five children's charities in which Zoe was involved - The Bethlehem Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Chattanooga, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chattanooga, T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital at Erlanger or Tennessee Baptist Children's Homes - or to Sue McDonough's favorite charity, New Richland Area Food Shelf of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland, Minn.
