Multiple events mark St. Patrick's Day

Look for the verdant hues of the Emerald Isle to inspire 50 shades of green as area residents celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

Several events will precede the actual holiday, which is Monday, March 17.

Among them is the inaugural St. Chatty's Day Parade, set for Saturday, March 15, on the North Shore. The family-oriented celebration will begin at noon on Frazier Avenue and end on River Street.

Proceeds from parade entries will go to Chattanooga's Kids on the Block.

The event is presented by the Shamrock Society and other sponsors.

Meanwhile, the Shamrock City celebration continues 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 15-16, at Rock City, 1400 Patten Road. Festivities include continuous music, Irish-inspired foods and beverages, children's activities (some with additional fees) and a cascade of green H2O in the waterfall.

DOG WALK FOR ST. PAWTRICK'S DAY

Even dogs can get in on the St. Paddy's action as DoGood Chattanooga, a volunteer citizens group, presents its fifth annual St. Pawtrick's Day costume walk and yappy hour for pups and their people on Saturday, March 15. The free event begins at 10 a.m. by the Pavilion at Renaissance Park, 200 River St. At 12:30 p.m., participants will begin their parade to the courtyard of Whole Foods, 301 Manufacturers Road, for yappy hour from 1 to 3 p.m. Bone Appetit will provide free, fresh-baked dog treats. Other giveaways and prizes are also included in festivities. Green costuming for pets and owners is encouraged.

Sundance Jenkins will perform Saturday at the Luck of the Irish Ride-in Bike Show at Thunder Creek Harley-Davidson in Chattanooga.

BIKE PARTIES AT CHATTANOOGA, DALTON HARLEY DEALERSHIPS

Both of the Harley-Davidson dealerships in the area are hosting a Luck of the Irish Ride-in Bike Show from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 15.

Two Georgia-based groups will entertain. Thunder Creek HD, 7720 Lee Highway in Chattanooga, has booked Sundance Jenkins, a cover band from Valdosta. At Mountain Creek HD, 1001 Market St. in Dalton, Ga., Back N' Black, a nationally touring AC/DC tribute act from Atlanta, will perform.

Each location will award $100 to an adult in the Best Dressed in Green contest at 3 p.m.

The bike show has a $10 entry fee, with registration from noon until 2 p.m. and awards at 4 p.m. People's Choice Awards of $300, $200 and $100 in cash prizes are among the honors to be bestowed.

Admission is free. Food and beverage concessions will be available. All ages and bikes are welcome.

CELTIC MUSIC AT SEWANEE RESTAURANT

The Slandered Banshee, a Celtic band from Sewanee, Tenn., will entertain at Crossroads Cafe, 38 Ball Park Road in Sewanee, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. CDT Saturday, March 15. Weather permitting, the musicians will perform on the outdoor patio. The restaurant features a Singaporean menu, which draws from the culinary traditions of Malaysia, China and India. WINERY GOES GREEN FOR SATURDAY SALUTE

The Georgia Winery specializes in muscadine wine, but only Shamrock City has "an enchanted leprechaun spirit," as evidenced by its emerald hue.

This seasonal wine will be the highlight of St. Patrick's Day Happy Hour, set for 1-5 p.m. Saturday, March 15, at the winery, 6469 Battlefield Parkway, Ringgold. Samples of the wine and other Irish-themed treats will be served. Glasses of wine and wine slushies will cost $3 each.

Chattanooga bagpiper Michael Whinery will provide live music.
