Friends of Hixson invite one and all to a community meeting June 9 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. inside the North River Civic Center.
Featured speaker Chattanooga City Councilwoman Pam Ladd will begin the meeting and accept questions from the audience. Following her speech, Crye-Leike Realtor Marv Martin will give a Friends of Hixson projects update; Hixson Utility District general manager Gene Huffine will present a Hixson economic update; and Chattanooga Police Department officers will present a Hixson crime update.
"The Friends of Hixson want to be a unified voice between our community and our elected officials," said Martin, a Friends of Hixson board member. "We think we can arrive at a consensus of what things are most important to the majority of Hixson residents."
He said the Friends of Hixson would like to establish an email list including all local neighborhood associations to learn their concerns about local crime, schools and taxes so that FOH knows what citizens would like to see in Hixson.
Martin said he plans to talk about the new Hixson recreation center at the community meeting. The center is slated to be built at the old Hixson Middle School site. He said Hixson residents don't want to wait 10 years for $10 million to become available to build the center.

He said he hopes the Friends of Hixson, North Chickamauga Creek Conservancy and local elected officials can work together to continue making Hixson a great place to live, work and play.
"No. 1, we want to improve Hixson and make it become an ideal place to do business and raise a family," Martin said. "We started the ball rolling by erecting the sculpture 'Arise' on Hixson Pike. We would love to continue improving the roundabouts at the dam by putting sculptures there too."
