Middle Valley Baptist Church is looking for 15 college students to hire as counselors for Camp All-Star, running June 6-24.
"We want our kids to have fun and learn something too," said MVBC associate pastor Mickey Rector. "We try to keep the camp as affordable as possible. We do pay the camp counselors."
For its seventh year of welcoming boys and girls age 4 through fifth-grade graduates, the camp has 13 activities for campers to choose from. The specialties are lacrosse, football, karate, golf, tennis, basketball, drama, art, dance, cheerleading, baseball, tumbling and video games. Hixson High School head football coach Houston White and McCallie School head lacrosse coach Shawn Robeynolt will lead the respective sports camps.
Lacrosse is a new specialty, according to Rector, so it will give campers a chance to learn new athletic skills.
"We typically have 120 to 130 kids each week at Camp All-Star," said Rector. "It's always exciting to see boys and girls participate. It's nice to see the kids that enjoy themselves in the past come back."
Once the month-long camp ends, North Hamilton Basketball Camp begins at Middle Valley Baptist. Boys and girls that just completed second through fifth grades can participate.
The boys basketball camp is July 11-15 and the girls basketball camp is July 18-22. Each session will be run by coaches from Hixson and Soddy-Daisy high schools and Soddy-Daisy and Loftis middle schools.
"Each coach has a certain fundamental that they work on during basketball camp," said Rector. "The North Hamilton Basketball League Camp is limited to 40 boys and 40 girls."
Rector said campers throughout the summer can arrive as early as 7 a.m. and leave as late as 5:30 p.m. for before- and after-care at Middle Valley Baptist.

Camp All-Star costs $75 per camper until June 1, after which it costs $90 per camper. The North Hamilton Basketball League Camp cost is $55 per camper through July 1 and $65 after that date.
