The fifth annual Fallfest at The Terrace at Mountain Creek is sure to draw a crowd to take part in contests, prizes, music, food and fall activities Oct. 14 from 1-4 p.m.

Jack-o-lantern carving, scarecrow character stuffing, face and pumpkin painting, a cake walk and egg toss will be available to event guests. Funnel cakes, caramel apples, mulled cider, popcorn, boiled peanuts, burgers, chili and hot dogs will be served.

"We encourage anyone from the community that would like to come to attend," said Terrace Life Enrichment Director Joe Mullins. "The event will be indoors and outdoors. Pumpkin carving and pumpkin pie baking contests will be judged."

Mullins, who is a photographer, will man a photo booth with a bales of hay scene to raise money for the American Cancer Society. He said people that have a photo made can drop by The Terrace the next day to purchase an 8-by-10-inch copy for $10.

"We want to donate $500 to the American Cancer Society," he said. "We will sell T-shirts and give away pink ribbons to raise funds too. We wanted to get involved with the American Cancer Society because so many of our residents have had cancer."

Bands will play throughout the day at the independent and assisted living community's entrance. Music ranging from gospel to country to bluegrass will be performed by the Whitings at 2 p.m. and by Dalton Roberts at 3:30 p.m.

An antique car show, health care provider booths and Cookie Lee jewelry will be on site. Mullins said cars from the 60s, 30s and 40s will be parked for spectators to view, with a '68 convertible Camaro and a '33 Chevrolet as showpieces.

"It will be a time for families to come out and spend time with residents too," he said. "Anytime people want a tour, we will be more than happy to show people around and introduce them to staff and residents."

Terrace Community Relations Manager Mike Usher said the residence has an in-house physical therapy department with Summit Physical Therapy and a new mid-level memory wing. The retirement community includes 42 independent apartments, 63 assisted living apartments and a secure memory wing with 13 apartments. Two dining rooms welcome residents.

"We try to keep our residents very engaged and active," said Usher. "We do chair exercises every day. We have happy hour on Wednesdays and Fridays. We have a two drink maximum. It's about socializing."
