The James County Historical Society meets Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the gym at Ooltewah United Methodist Church at 6131 Relocation Way.
Many new residents of Ooltewah may not know that it was once the county seat of James County, the only county in Tennessee to be dissolved, then annexed by Hamilton and Bradley counties. One of my most prized books in my collection is titled "James County - A Lost County in Tennessee," published in 1983 and edited by Polly Donnelly. Not many copies exist.
Former Tennessee senator David Copeland will be leading the historical society discussion. And there is absolutely no truth to the rumor that he was the mayor of James County since the county was dissolved in 1919.
