Registration continues until Sept. 28 for floats participating in the second annual Signal Mountain High School homecoming parade, which will be held Thursday, Sept. 29 beginning at 7 p.m. followed by a pep rally ending around 8 p.m.

Organized by Mountain Education Foundation in partnership with the Mountain Business Association, the parade will be held in the evening this year to allow for more community participation, said MEF Executive Director Mike Taylor.

"We had a big turnout last year, but wanted more parents to have the opportunity to bring their kids," he said.

MBA businesses will stay open until 6 p.m. for pre-parade shopping and restaurants plan to close later that night so attendees can grab dinner after the event.

"We encourage folks to come out and have a good time and celebrate homecoming," Taylor said. "It's going to be a fun family evening."

He said the event will feature a special kids' celebration and a pep rally with the high school band and cheerleaders in the Pruett's parking lot.

MEF and MBA have put together a judging committee to select the top three floats as the parade travels its extended route from Signal Mountain Town Hall to Citizens Tri-County Bank.

"There will be a detour through town during that time," said Taylor.

Parade entry forms are available online at meftoday.org. The entry fee is $5, which Taylor said helps to offset the cost of the parade.
