Garden and Art Expo blooms at Bachman Community Center April 21

Bachman Community Center will hold its eighth annual Garden and Art Expo Saturday, April 21 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Bachman Executive Director Lissa Goeltz said the event will feature new vendors this year, such as one offering garden arbors, as well as longtime favorites and local plant societies.

The local iris, hosta and rhododendron societies have each confirmed they will be in attendance, she said.

"The really nice thing about the plant societies being here is when you go up to them to buy a plant, they can tell you exactly how to nurture the plant to grow them successfully," said Goeltz.

Azaleas from the Rhododendron Society are always a top seller, she said.

"They're beautiful and really popular, so come early," said Goeltz.

A Master Gardener from Marion County will be on hand with herbs and organic veggies.

"He sells gorgeous tomato plants and his vegetables are delicious," said Goeltz.

Specialty vendors such as Ponds and Plants Custom Landscape will offer a wide variety of perennials, shrubs, trees and flowers, she said.

Other popular vendors returning this year include Tennessee Fine Gardening and artisans such as Carl's Copper with their garden art and landscape design accessories. Heritage Stonecraft will be bringing back its hand-cut stone birdbaths as well, said Goeltz.

Bachman will be selling biscuits and coffee for breakfast and pizza for lunch in its concession area. The recently renamed Bachman Bargain Shoppe (formerly Bargain Barn) will also have a booth selling garden tools and accessories. All proceeds from sales at the booth, food and the $2 admission charge go toward the restoration and maintenance of the building, Goeltz said.
