Bachman Community Center is holding its first Garden & Home Show Saturday, April 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event is replacing the center's Garden and Art Expo previously held each year in the spring, said Ashley Zimmerman, director of marketing and programs at Bachman.

The Mountain Arts Guild, which in the past provided the artwork for the expo, will instead be displaying works at Bachman's open house event in October, she said.

Alongside gardening vendors this year will be vendors selling home items related to outdoor living, such as rustic furniture and outdoor lighting, said Zimmerman.

She said returning vendors will be familiar favorites, including the Rhododendron Society, Walden's Ridge Guild, Brown Dirt Farm and Custom Landscape and Design. Pikeville's Blue Flamingo Farm is new to this year's lineup, which also includes Terra Flower Farm, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives and the Orchard Gallery.

"It's planting season, and the plants we'll have here are top-of-the-line," said Zimmerman, adding that the best items are often snapped up early in the day. "Since it's outdoor time, come here to get outdoor living ideas."

Live music is another addition to this year's event, which will feature duo Paul Hendricks and Ivan Chambers as well as bluesy rock group the Crossroad Gypsies.

Children will be entertained while parents shop as there will be activities such as seed planting and crafts.

The Signal Mountain Lions Club will be selling grilled hot dog or hamburger meals with chips and a drink for $5.

Admission to the event is free. Zimmerman added that attendees will be entered into a drawing for the chance to win door prizes.

Bachman Bargains will be open that day to hold its White Elephant Sale featuring garden-related items donated to Bachman, said Zimmerman.

She said funds raised through the event help fund Nancie's Summer Camps at Bachman, as well as upkeep and repairs for the historic building.

Bachman will continue to sign up more vendors until April 26. Interested vendors can call Bachman at 886-4842.
