The Mountain Arts Community Center is hosting its first-ever Halloween event, beginning with a costumed parade through Old Town and ending with games, food and crafts at the community center Saturday, Oct. 28.

MACC board member Angie Landrum said she came up with the idea while participating in the annual Old Town Fourth of July parade, rescheduled for Labor Day this year due to weather, where she asked others parading if they'd be interested in dressing up and doing it again come October. The answer was a resounding "yes," she said, so the MACC set about planning an outdoor event on its grounds to be held following the parade.

Attendees will congregate in costume at the wishing well at the intersection of Tennessee and Texas avenues at 11 a.m. The parade route follows Texas, crosses James Boulevard and ends at the MACC, where there will be tents set up with Halloween-themed games, crafts and food until 2 p.m. The free event features a costume contest with prizes, Landrum said.

The event is being held the same day the Signal Mountain Middle/High School Sports Boosters are holding their second annual Zombie Trail Run and Halloween Fest at McCoy Farm and Gardens, giving mountain residents a full spectrum of spooky - and not so spooky - options for the holiday.

"We decided to do something appropriate for younger kids, something that's not scary and earlier in the day," Landrum said.

Members of the Signal Mountain Lions Club will be selling food and drinks, with all proceeds going toward the MACC.
