Animal Hospital of Signal Mountain is expanding its Howl-O-Ween Trick or Treat events to four days this year, giving the community more opportunities to dress up, win gift baskets and consume candy this Halloween.

"We love to see dogs in costume, so that's the main motivation," said receptionist manager Audrey Glor-Michel, as to why the animal hospital is expanding its Halloween celebration this year.

She said people are certainly welcome to dress their felines in costume as well, though she admits cats are typically less compliant when it comes to costumes.

In years past, the animal hospital invited clients to dress up their pets and come by for treats, but this year the staff decided to cast a wider net with multiple events, Glor-Michel said.

The fun begins Friday, Oct. 27 with Adult Trick-or-Treat. Adults are invited to put their pets - and themselves - in costume and come by the office to receive a coupon for a free dog or cat nail trim, as well as a full-size candy bar. On Saturday, Oct. 28, kids in costume are invited to come by the office to get a head start on their candy collecting, and their parents will receive a free nail-trimming coupon to use on one of their four-legged children.

Think your dog’s costume deserves a little more attention? Head to the costume contest at Play Walk Pint next to the Chattanooga Choo Choo, where Animal Hospital of Signal Mountain vet Dr. Blair Corman will be a judge. The contest is set for Oct. 28 from noon to 6 p.m.

Safety First Trick-or-Treat day is Monday, Oct. 30, when parents of costumed pets will receive 10 percent off a custom ID tag or microchip. Those who book their pet's annual appointment that day will also receive a free LED collar light while supplies last.

Then, on Tuesday, Oct. 31, the animal hospital will offer those who bring costumed pets a free nail-trimming coupon and 10 percent off any retail item. The staff will also be snapping photos of pets and their parents to post online.

Attendees at each of the four trick-or-treat events can enter their name to win a gift basket containing treats, toys, collar and leash, and a coupon for a discount on two nights of boarding. One basket will be given away at each of the four events, Glor-Michel said.

All four events will be held during the office's business hours, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

For pet parents who don't have costumes for their fur babies, Glor-Michel said the office will have extras on-hand for pets to try on while they're there.

"Adults are more than welcome to come in costume, too," she added.
