SODDY-DAISY: Softball team earns Top 25 spot

Spring has sprung and so have all the outdoor sports that we play or love to follow. Our Soddy-Daisy High School Trojans softball team has earned a number "25" spot in the Rise ESPN's Fab 50 national rankings list. You can watch their last season game at Girls Preparatory School on Friday at 4:30 p.m. I'm betting another state championship is in the works for the team.

Rob Wood has invited the community to a re-dedication of the baseball field at Soddy-Daisy Middle School on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. They will be honoring the memory of beloved former coach Merle Crawley, for whom the field is named. Coach Crawley's former players are also invited to attend. A game will follow the dedication at 1 p.m. Newly selected head football coach, Ron Cox, will fit right in with the tradition of excellence.

A new business has opened in the area to help athletes improve competition levels. GAIA, owned by Andy Sweet, is located at 13316 Jones Gap Road. For more information, call 423-208-8996 or e-mail andy@gaiafitness.com.
