Timothy Mulderink, of The Chef and his Wife, is moving his business to Hixson. The grab-n-go/delivery service offers homemade, ready-to-warm meals for those without the time to cook.

At the new location, which was set to open April 4, he's also offering affordable daily lunch and salad specials for anyone who stops in.

It's a big shift for Mulderink, who only offered pre-ordered take-home meals at his Tyner-area location on Bonny Oaks Drive.

Although he is moving away from his current location, Mulderink said he and his staff will work with customers from the surrounding areas who order online to provide a more convenient location to pick up their food.

"We'll definitely work with them to find a location," he said. "We're still dedicated to serving the customers we're currently taking care of."

Mulderink said he's excited at the prospect of moving his operation to Hixson, though he wasn't quite sure where he'd expand to when he started looking. Construction for a new building was too expensive, he said. Thankfully, he discovered his new location on Prestige Lane.

"It wouldn't have made sense not to take advantage of this location," said Mulderink. "Hixson is a beautiful community, and we've already got so many great responses from people. I think there's a lot of opportunity here."

Mulderink said his focus is for people on the go who are rushed through the day, leaving little time to prepare a healthy, tasty meal. He said he also strives to reduce the cost of his meals, making them even more convenient. One of his primary customer bases is home-bound seniors, he said, but he's looking forward to growing his audience with the new location.

"It's a little out of the norm, but the concept has definitely worked for us," said Mulderink, who has run his Tyner location for four years. "Now, though, we wanted people to have the ability to stop by and pick up something without having to plan it ahead."

He said a lunch bar, available Monday-Friday at the new location, will feature one specialty Southern menu item per day that customers can sit down and order. A banquet room that can seat up to 40 people is on-site. Mulderink stressed, however, that those interested in using the space on weekends or for more than 40 guests have options.
